How to use wool pellets when re-potting a houseplant:

1. Get your new soil damp, and mix wool pellets in at a 1:16 ratio (e.g. 1 cup of pellets per gallon of soil).

2. Fill the bottom of the new pot with the mixed potting soil.

3. Place the plant on top of the soil, and fill in around the roots, being sure to compact the soil to ensure the plant is supported.

4. Water well.

Wool pellets help manage your plant’s moisture, extending the time between waterings. They also help aerate your soil, and fertilize your plants with nitrogen and potassium.

Over the last few years, I have watched many natural dyers get into making lake pigments for ink, watercolor paint, or pastels… So when @nataliestopka released her book… I decided it was time to make better use of the dye baths I create for yarn… and make pigments with the left over color! A more complete use for thoughtfully harvested, and foraged plants!

Later this month I am taking a beginner watercolor painting class… so I can use my natural dye watercolors!

Who knows, maybe I’ll get good enough at making watercolor paints that I’ll sell them in limited quantities! Any interest?

I almost threw my serger across the room, kept jamming; I rethreaded it, checked the tension/settings- to no avail. I finally just did zigzag to finish my edges, less stress, lol.

I normally try and rush through to finish something, take short cuts. This time, I took my time, and learned a lot of new skills.

Sometimes slowing down, taking your time is the answer. I know rushing through doesn’t always yield the best results, I hope I can remember this feeling of accomplishment, and continue along this road!

For a while now, I have been wanting to sew more of my own clothes, and improve my skills as a sewist. I would like to be able to weave fabric from local wool, and sew it into wearable garments!

So as part of 2026, I will be working on my sewing skills, and getting the benefit of clothes I actually want to wear(I hope).

For my first project, I am sewing @sewliberated ‘s Chanterelle Pants! I have only made PJ pants up till now! Wish me luck!

And how fun is that fabric?! Picked it up at @sewboco !

New friend for the studio, this is 1961 Necchi Lelia 513. She needs a bit of work, tune up, and should be an excellent workhorse machine!

The problem with most modern machines is that they are made mostly of plastic. The are not able to handle thick materials, such as denim, or someone’s handwoven material. This old gal should hold up nicely! 🪡 ��🧵🔥

Black Hollyhocks have a type of pigment called an anthocyanin.

These pigments are PH sensitive creating a blue/green in alkali, violet in neutral, and red/pink in acidic water.

I didn’t not PH test my water... but such a cool reaction! Not at all what i expected! Guess i’ll need to test this next time!

Every year around late October, mid November — it is time to plant garlic. It’s part of my yearly cycle, along with shearing and harvest time

I mixed some compost from @wompostaurora with our wool pellets to provide a good medium for the garlic to grow, and thrive on.

Now the cloves settle down for a cozy winters hibernation.

Fuzzy, Wuzzy, and Muppet— three of the sweetest sheep I shear. I have sheared them twice a year since they were 4-6 months old. These Swiss black nose Valais sheep , often considered the cutest sheep in the world, live at @lilbuckaroosfarm . I’m so grateful to shear for such a great organization!

I mean, I also get to love on them. 🐑🤩❤️

This is a very special project to me, I am weaving rugs made entirely from local wool that I sheared.

The warp is from Fuzzy, Wuzzy, and Muppet @lilbuckaroosfarm. The Corespun(fat yarn) is from all the sheep sheared my first year shearing-Southdown Babydoll, Hampshire-Suffolk X, etc. The thin grey in the middle is from a Lincoln Longwool that I sheared last year.

Supporting local is more important now than it has even been, with all that has been going on in this world. I am a proud member of @mountainsandplainsfibershed , and cannot wait to share these one of a kind handmade projects!

These rugs will be available starting Saturday, October 4th at the Farm to Fashion Event at JeffCo Fairgrounds, Hall 3 from 10-5! Support all your local fiber folk and help us build an amazing organization!

This is a very special project to me, I am weaving rugs made entirely from local wool that I sheared.

The warp is from Fuzzy, Wuzzy, and Muppet @lilbuckaroosfarm. The Corespun(fat yarn) is from all the sheep sheared my first year shearing-Southdown Babydoll, Hampshire-Suffolk X, etc. The thin grey in the middle is from a Lincoln Longwool that I sheared last year.

Supporting local is more important now than it has even been, with all that has been going on in this world. I am a proud member of @mountainsandplainsfibershed , and cannot wait to share these one of a kind handmade projects!

These rugs will be available starting Saturday, October 4th at the Farm to Fashion Event at JeffCo Fairgrounds, Hall 3 from 10-5! Support all your local fiber folk and help us build an amazing organization!

Original plan had been to hike mtns, but weather got the better of the plan, so we drove all the way to Arkansas, and Missouri for state highpoints. Beautiful, and great knitting time!
