I am having so much fun blending these batts!

This one is CVM x, tussah silk, and natural red mohair- all raised here in Colorado(minus the silk)… even the dyers coreopsis was grown in my dye garden… in COLORADO!!!!

These are coming out AMAZING!!! Once everything is dry, I can start carding some naturally dyed- local colorado wool batts for spinners!

I am excited to offer this, I have not seen many dyers offering natural dyed batts, especially made with local Colorado fibers from our fibershed!

Last Friday at the Estes Park Wool Market, I took a class how to make the best use of your drum carder with @clemesandclemes. I have been spinning over 20 years with little to no formal instruction, so taking this class was a GAME CHANGER! I learned so much, and immediately went home to play with my carder!

I was also lucky enough to be in the same class with @truebluefiber , who I have followed for a while and also happens to be in the @mountainsandplainsfibershed ! I hope to do more projects with her in the future! It was an excellent day with the most excellent company!

Got to experience the miracle of new life while shearing last weekend!

Fern was, uhh, fairly round when she was brought over for shearing, but we didn’t realize quite how ready to go she was until her water broke on the board immediately after we finished shearing her. Thankfully they were able to get her into a private stall, and within a few hours she’d dropped her new lamb, Greg! Happy to say he was up and about a following mama, and looked nice and healthy.

610 lbs of waste wool, off to the pellet mill!

As many of you know, there’s a lot of the wool that comes off the sheep during shearing that can’t be turned into yarn - it’s either too short, too dirty, or just not the right quality. So, we work with @newlibertywoolpellets to turn it in to turn it into wool pellets for us!

We love that we’re able to keep that wool out of the waste stream, and able to put those nutrients back into your soil!

First guy is a gently giant, with a massive fleece!

The other two girls are the SHINIEST of Leicester longwools, both have beautiful shiny, wavy fleeces! Violet decided after wiggling around for most of her shear, that she forgave me enough for scritches.

We had the pleasure of shearing a small flock of Cotswold Sheep, an historic breed of British longwool sheep said to have been descended from sheep brought to England by the Romans.

These wonderful sheep have beautiful curly fiber with a natural sheen to it.

I have only been lucky enough to encounter these rare, threatened sheep one other time about 20 years ago in Connecticut.

If you are interested in reading more about this amazing rare breed, the @livestockconservancy has great information about the sheep and their fiber!
